Let us say you and a friend are walking down a long trail. Your destination is several miles farther down the trail. By and by you are joined by a third person---a man you do not recognize. The man joins your conversation, and as he speaks, you can sense the power and passion in his voice and his words. Your hearts begin to burn with his wisdom and strength.
You ask the man to join you for dinner at the end of your walk; and, as you sit at the table together, the stranger breaks bread and says a little prayer. Just at that moment, you and your friend realize that it is Jesus Himself---and, at that moment, He disappears.
What do you think your reaction would be when you realized that this man was Jesus? What would be your reaction when He disappeared? Do you think something like this could happen to you? Would this event be life-changing for you? Would you feel compelled to tell others about what had happened?
Because, you see, it did happen---on the third day after Jesus' crucifixion, two men were walking along the road to Emmaus, a town about 12 kilometers from Jersualem, when this story took place. Ref: Luke 24:13---35. A remarkable story, and something to think about.
