Huh? Say What? Hmmm....Government Must Be Involved........

One of my favorite esteemed bloggers, Texwis Girl of Run-A-Round Ranch Report , often reports on the multitude of wildlife denizens that frequent her ranch.  One of my favorites is the Barred Owl.  Lovely creature.
Barred Owl
But now comes word that our government is considering shooting  these majestic birds in California's Muir Woods.  Yes, pointy headed scientists have determined that they are encroaching on the habitat of Spotted Owls; and Spotted Owls, you see dear reader, are an endangered species.  Yes, you heard me right---Spotted Owls are not losing range to logging interests; they are losing it to another owl.  And, like all birds of prey, both Barred and Spotted owls are protected by ...... you guessed it---federal law.  The government giveth and the government taketh away.
Spotted Owl
Oh---rest easy, gentle readers.  The government assures us that the Barred Owls will not be shot.  They will be subjected to "on-site lethal removal".  Gosh, I feel better about this already.

Kinda' like when feral hogs were being removed from the Great Smoky Mountains.  The government assured us ignorant citizens that the hogs would not be left in the fields to rot.  No, they would be "recycled by natural processes."

  1. Government has fancy forked tongue!

  2. I now loved owls,.......used to be afraid of big birds until I read"How to overcome one's fears". I had my photo holding a huge owl whilst living in Spain it's on the cover of my book.
    Enjoyed your read.
    Have a smashing week-end.

  3. oh dear... calif - send the barreds over here. i'll take 'em!

  4. Oh this makes me very sad. They are both beautiful. B

  5. Why someone always has to fool with nature is beyond me. Like when they decided that they must kill all wolves because they eat a a few ranchers sheep. But the wolves were very important part of the eco-system that kept many other things in check. It makes me sick.

  6. just terrible. who knows, they may be bringing the owls to the grove for their bizarre rituals!;)

  7. recycled hogs ......hmmm I don't like the sound of that :)

  8. No matter how you dress it up, it is still killing. Wonder who they think they are fooling.

  9. Clint - Yep - more craziness.

Have you seen that hilarious "advertisement" on
Spenditol? It really points out the govt. nutiness. Have a good one - Marsha

  10. My goodness, this is sheer insanity. I have to shake my head and was going to go back for a second read but I'm sure I just read what I did... doesn't make much sense to me, nope not one wee bit.

  11. It is amazing how the government not only can twist words, but play God. These idiots think they know best. As a chicken grower, I don't like owls, but they have their place in nature. And to me Nature always knows best.

  12. I love Owls.
    Habe a nice weekand.
    Greetings Sabine

  13. what a shame, like so many things that come up with such idiots.

Have a great weekend and greetings

  14. I do have to laugh - 'cause otherwise I'd cry :-). I wonder how much this is going to cost us? Have a wonderful weekend, Clint. Blessings...Mary

  15. Thanks for commenting on my blog a little while ago.
The owls are beautiful. Hope it works out!
Sorry to read and see your poison ivy adventure, not nice but what a great Dr. you certainly hit it off well with him.

  16. I love owls tooo !!))

  17. On site lethal removal! whatever they mean by that... doesn't sound very nice. I feel bad for the barred owls... We humans have messed up their natural habitats so badly, that now, some owls get to live and others don't.

Have thoroughly enjoyed my visit here today. Stayed around a bit, Clint.

Read up on the Gatlinburg trip, the pictures were great.

Sorry to hear about the poison ivy, but I'm sure you're okay by now.

Hope your new gas leak detector isn't defective...

    Blessings on your week.

  18. Enuf to give me spastic colon! :-/
