We've been dieting. Eating healthy. Losing weight. Workin' out.
So, I guess it came as no surprise to us last night that the topic of conversation turned to comfort food.
Comfort food.....we all know what that is. It is those foods that make us feel so incredibly loved and content while we are eating them but make us feel guilty and dislike ourselves after we have swallowed the last bite.
But, I have put some thought into this, and I think we all need to partake of comfort food from time to time.
My motto is "Moderation---even in moderation". Ha. So true.
Some of my comfort foods are:
---Chocolate or pecan pie a la mode
---A heaping bowl of guacomole and chips
---Really greasy, crisp onion rings
---Cindy's cheese grits and sausage balls
---Almost any kind of Mexican food---tacos, enchiladas, burritos, chile rellenos, etc...
---Homemade fried chicken
---Fried chicken livers
---Raw oysters with sauce
What are some of your favorite comfort foods?
omg,I don't know anyone but my husband that would cherish a plate fried chicken livers and it just so happens that he is from KY. he is so lucky also because he married a MN. girl!
ReplyDeleteGuacamole is definitely one of my love languages! Chicken livers and raw oysters? Not so much.
ReplyDeletemashed potatoes!!! YUM!
ReplyDeleteI follow the Paul McKenna PHD claim about losing weight, One can eat what you like providing you feel REALLY HUNGRY, eat SLOWLY,
ReplyDeleteand always leave something on your plate. Plus listening to a cd ,it do work.
Best of luck with your regime.
Yvonne.
I'd have to go with savory scones and freshly made bread. Both are hard to beat and enormously satisfying. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteguacamole is nothing to feel guilty about! everyone says its fattening, but it's a plant-based fat, which isn't so bad. at least that's what i tell myself.
ReplyDeletemy comfort foods are: vanilla ice cream with or without rainbow jimmies, oreo cookies, cheese fries dipped in ranch, soft pretzels, my momma's meatballs and beef stew, bread dipped in olive oil, pizza... ok, i should stop now.=)
COOOOOKIES!!! I like cookies! Hahaha... just call me the cookie monster : )
ReplyDeleteI had to really think about this one, I don't eat fried nor salty foods ever, sweets sometimes but not too often. I'm going to have to say that it's apple crisp made with fresh apples from my boss's apple tree. I think that's what I want because it's been close to a year since I've had it, I only make it a few times a year and it's so good. I put plenty of cinnamon, very little sugar and the tartness of the apples... well they put Granny Smith apples to shame. I've also incorporated into my diet a banana a day, sometimes two, with peanut butter, I know when I don't have my banana because I'll crave them if I miss a day.
ReplyDeleteFried chicken livers for you? I'm going to venture a guess and say that most likely you don't have to fight others for the last liver on the plate. :-)
Enjoy your day!
I love fried fish.

There is nothing like comfort food. My favorites are homemade mac and cheese and homemade dumplin's. Both fattening ... but so yummy!
ReplyDeleteAnything cooked or baked in fresh coconut cream for this tropical gal! Why do comfort and calories have to always go together! :(
ReplyDeleteI used to love beef stew but when I turned vegetarian, comfort went out the window. Veggies really are healthy--but not comforting. I need to find something.
ReplyDeleteArkansas Patti

ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the moderation bit!!! I have found by eating WHOLE FOODS 90% of the time and no Animal Protein makes the weight come off on it own! but I loved your comfort food until I got to the chicken livers and Oysters!!
ReplyDeleteCheeeeeese....I love cheese and without workout most of the "normal food" wants to go on my hips.
