Moving Moments.......

Everybody understands what a burden moving is.  It has been rated just below death of a spouse and job loss as most psychologically trying of life's trials.

There are lots of reasons for this.  You go thru selecting a real estate agent, listing the home, keeping it in pristine condition 24/7 for 10 months (that's how long our home took to sell in a horrible real estate market), suffering through literally hundreds of strangers traipsing through your home at all hours, lowering the price---twice; wondering whether it would EVER sell, putting up with advice from well-meaning friends, etc.

But, the thing that has hit us lately is our old adversary, Satan.

I have discovered that Cindy has been keeping quite a bit of her sentimental things in out-of-the-way places that I do not frequent---closets, drawers, under guest beds, etc.  When I discovered the scope of this stuff, I began to panic.  I started to realize how much more involved packing would be.  Time is short---we are supposed to be moved on April 25.

When I would express my concern to her, she began to get an edge to her voice.  Truth be told, I don't blame her for that because I tend to become anal under pressure.

(Time out---The electrician who is here right now just informed me that my circuit breaker box is defective and needs to be replaced.  Oh, good---more consternation---and expense)

Funny, you know, how the devil uses times of stress and loved ones to cause us to quarrel and say and do things that are displeasing to God.

In the midst of all of this, I need to once again remind myself that my focus should be on Him---not on my problems.  If I do that, He will see us through this period of stress.  He always has.

NOTE---I am even more appreciative of His grace after reading today's RED LETTER BELIEVERS post by David Rupert.  Please read the comments at the end of his post.  And blessings to all of my friends.

  3. Maybe that electrician has a sick child and needs money for medical bills and God sent him to you to provide.....hmmmmm. Just one of the many ways you could be being given a chance to serve God today. Wonderful post, Clint.

  4. I really feel for you Clint and Cindy, having moved myself many times over the years. It may take time and patience but you will get through it and it will have all been worth it in the end, when you finally sit on the porch of your new home in your rocking chair, sipping on your Martini. I wish you a very nice weekend, my thoughts are with you, God bless you, kind regards, Maria

  5. Moving had one silver lining, is that it forces you to minimize. Less is more. You can't take any of it 'with you' so re-home it now. You will feel so much lighter.

  7. oh, but a housecleaning if Cindy is ready to part with some of that sentimental stuff! if not, it might be worth packing it up, moving it and storing it in TN - delay the battle until you're both less stressed... :)

  8. Isn't it funny, when we are stressed out that we don't yell at strangers? We yell at the people we love the most! How upside down is that!

  9. I was lucky to sell my Florida home in 04 when the market was crazy. It sold in one day but the people gave me 60 days to move. Even with those circumstances, it was stressful.
Hang in, this too shall pass.

  12. moving is the pits! just imagine how nice it will be when you're all settled in your new nest.=)

perhaps you need to have a yard sale? i find it easier to give my sentimental things up when i see others could use them. one man was so excited to buy things from me to give to his daughter. i thought that was sweet.

  15. When we first moved from Singapore to Malaysia, my husband handled and took care of everything, and the three times we moved after that, I handled and took care of everything.

It is stressful time Clint, but it can also be exciting time. But then again, excitement can be stressful. Take it easy.
