Friends......

Friends Sharing Special Moments at Home
Friendship:  The supportive relationship between people.  The term connotes a relationship which involves mutual knowledge, esteem, affection, and respect along with a degree of rendering service in times of need.
Why Do Some Friendships Not Stand the Test of Time?
A friend is:

---Someone who will support you unconditionally

---Someone you can trust, and who will not be judgemental

---Someone who will not deliberately hurt your feelings

---Someone whose company you enjoy

---Someone who stands by you in tough situations

---Someone  who accepts you for what you are
Some Friends Last a Lifetime
Questions:

---Why can it be so hard to get and maintain friendships?

---Do we even need friends in our lives?

---Are there different kinds of friends?

---Why do friends sometimes "come and go" in our lives?

  1. Yes, we have made some wonderful friends here! We have had lots of fun and some fantastic food around here! Our neighbors are great cooks!

  2. Friends are most important in our lives, some stand the test of time others not. It takes two to make a friendship and one to break it.
True friends will accept you warts and all mot only when the going is good.

    Thanks for your lovely comment.
    Yvonne.

  3. i suppose the commitment and responsibilities play important roles in friendships as well. some people can't commit and can't give maybe due to time or distance restrictions thus causing them to "come and go" in our lives. I am sure everyone will have their own group of friends that they are comfortable with. :)

  4. I had a best friend for almost 20 years. We lived 1,000 miles apart for most of those years. Her life went a different direction and I kept waiting to hear from her and finally gave her permission to leave me behind. It still hurts 10 yrs later... I still miss her.

  6. Yes! We need friends in our lives. Well, at least I do - but I honestly think everyone does; even those who may pretend that they don't need friends.

and, Yes, there are different kinds of friends. Or maybe it is just there are various levels of friendship. There is ONE COUPLE in our lives with whom we have been dearest friends for nearly thirty-five years. We have lived near and far, and had our ups and downs, but it seems we were immediately "dearest friends" from day one.

Meanwhile, we have had many GOOD friends over the years for varying lengths of time, many of whom we still communicate with, but some not just due to distance (mostly).

And there are "friends" that are really just acquaintances or coworkers or neighbors - with whom we share friendly relationship but generally only on a surface level.

Now, see, Clint, you got me on a roll, here; cuz the whole category of "online friends" is a whole 'nother territory!!!

Still - bottom line - I believe we were created for RELATIONSHIP, and friendships of various levels and durations are what make us who we are. Right now, while you are reading this, I am becoming part of who you are!

Sorry, didn't mean to scare ya.

  8. Yvonne---You are right! It only takes one friend to break a friendship.

Gabriel---There are indeed so many reasons friendships either thrive or fail...and everything in between.

Texwis---I know how that hurts. But, in fact, I suppose that I, too, have disappointed others when I was unable to continue a friendship.

    Sabine---friendship is truly a gift.

Ed---Ha. You didn't scare me...in fact, I love your sentiments. We could go on and on, couldn't we, about our thoughts on friendship? You've given me an idea for another posting. Thanks!

  10. There's only a few people like us, I think. When we get to meet them they become life long friends. Then we have surface friends that we just kind of get to know, enjoy, but aren't like us as much. I think God brings different people into our lives at different times. Sometimes He wants our full attention, other times He wants us to serve and help others, but He always provides a few friends that are just what we need. Glad you're a friend :)

  12. I have had friends real friends that I can count on one hand. These are the people who are, and have been there.
My son was always talking about friends he had all over the country that he never met. I had to explain to him the difference between friends and acquaintances. It took him years to find this out. I have several good acquaintances, but very few friends.

  14. What a thought provoking post. I never really gave it much thought until now. I know that I have an intimate love/friendship with our Lord. My next love of my life and best friend is my wife, but other then that I have lots of friends at church and if you count family. But those friends that would stand by you with unconditional love, besides the Lord would only be my wife. All others would run the other direction. Sounds bad doesn't it. God bless, Lloyd

  15. You've posed some really good questions, Clint. We all need friends. I suspect each of us our own definition of what a friend should be. The quality I most value in my friends is honesty. I don't want unconditional loyalty from my friends. I could go on for hours but will spare you my meanderings. Have a good evening. Blessings...Mary

  20. Great post! I think one of the reasons friends come and go in our lives is because of ourselves. We think “what is in it for me” and let our own selfish ambitions get in the way.
    God bless,
    Ken

  22. Wow, it's really hard to say?! I have had friends come and go in my life for sure...most of it having to do with location and I think just people's lives getting busy. I have many friends too...where we won't talk for a while but then when we do it's like we never spent the time apart :)
