It happens most mornings. I begin to stir from sleep around 5ish. The room is dark and cool. The bed feels gooood. I change positions, bringing the pillows closer to me. I thrust one between my legs. The coolness of the bed linens feels wonderful.
I can't go back to sleep, no matter how hard I try. My consciousness begins to talk to me. Things I need to do that day....worries over this or that....unrelated, semi-conscious concerns. I seem to have no control over my thoughts.
I force myself to arise. My second stop is the coffee pot. Soon, my thoughts and consciousness will once again be under my control. Another day has begun.
Your sleep patterns are similar to mine. I was reading somewhere that an "expert" said to not lie there and have that "mind clutter" going through your head. If you can't go back to sleep within 20 minutes, it's better to get up.
ReplyDeleteI do find after I get up for a few minutes and read something, sleepiness returns. ;~)
I can relate to waking around 5am. It's most annoying if you want to go to sleep. I usually arise, shower and go for a walk.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day.
Yvonne.
About this time of year I want to just lie in bed all morning. Wish I could sometime.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely read, to put a lovely smile on my face!! :>) I give two thumbs up to the coffee pot!!!
ReplyDeleteControl is a relative term. Perhaps "under the influence" of caffeine ??? Just sayin'. :)

5:00 IS THE PERFECT TIME TO GET UP!
ReplyDeleteI get up early too and it is always better for me to get out of bed, because if I fall asleep again and then I wake up, I am in a bad mood all day.
ReplyDeleteYou know, Clint, according to Dr. OZ, the best time to exercise is around 6 a.m. before you consume anything to get that metabolism going. I used to run 4-10 miles every morning (many moons ago when I could do more than stumble through my day) and I wholeheartedly agree with him. I seemed to get so much more accomplished during the day too because my energy level was so high. I miss those day. I agree with Cindy, you should get up for a few minutes and return to bed. That does work for a lot of folks. Sweet dreams!
ReplyDeletei've read from many sources that it's best to rise with the sun. i'd love to get up that early and stay up. i'm up at 5 to feed the cat but then i go back. i go to bed too late!
