Personal Grooming........

Women know a whole lot more about this topic than I, a mere man.  I mean, women always seem to look so much more wholesome than we guys do most of the time.

But, it struck me yesterday as I was attending to one of the endless tasks that must be performed on oneself at regular intervals that an awful lot of time is consumed while taking care of personal hygiene and grooming.

Daily bathing
Shampooing
Brushing of teeth
Flossing
Mouthwashing
Fingernail clipping
Toenail clipping
Trimming of excess hair on eyebrows, nose and ears
Shaving
Deodorant application
Moisturizer application
Hair trimming and styling
Daily exercising

This is a partial list, to be sure.  When I think of what women go through with their makeup and such I tremble at the thought.

And I haven't even addressed the labor associated with the cleaning and pressing of clothing.  How do we even have time for anything else in life?

Excuse me now---gotta go brush my teeth.

  1. ...and don't forget to floss! Remember what you tell me, only floss the teeth you want to keep! I am glad I have a husband who is concerned with grooming!

  2. Well you can always give it all up, and then find out who your real friends are ;) Only a true friend would go to the movies with a cave man.

  3. Just think of all the extra time pioneer men had when they weren't hunting, fishing, chopping, plowing, fighting off threatening people and since every one smelled rank in those days and being snaggled toothed wasn't a turn off, who cared?
I'm personally glad times have changed. Brush away big fellow.

  4. hahaha, this is fun!
It seems that I was a man in another life. I really do hate putting on make ups or fixing my hair. I don't even like to go to a hairstylist. And my fingernails are always short, no colours on it.
But don't worry: yes, I shave my legs;-)
    You have a good sunday!

  5. And, here I thought you were a "wash and wear" kind of guy. Not all pomp and circumstance. Was I wrong, or just mistaken?

  6. Many years ago I watched a movie about an old couple that decided to commit suicide together. The old man, who I think was played by Henry Fonda, first brought up the idea to his wife by saying he was "tired". Tired of his hair, tired of his fingernails, tired. When you think of it, all this grooming, day after day, year after year, it does get tiring.

  8. You do come up with some topics but important ones.I once wrote a poem about a toothbrush and a common garden pea.
I refuse to go grey gracefully so to that list I would have to add hair colouring.

    Have a good day.

  12. Good thing they have hairdressers, massage therapy, manicurists, pedicurists, take out dinners, house cleaners and a host of other professions that help us keep up to ourselves. Now to win the lottery to be able to afford all of the extra help to look after myself! ;-)
