The Lowest Form of Life.......
I abhor the thought of serious felonies being committed. Murders and other acts of violence are terrible to ponder, but at least I understand how they can occur.
On the other hand, I have no earthly idea how a human being can sink so low as to take candy out of the mouths of their own children. There must be a special place in hades for folks like that.
As is often the case in these strange stories, the location of this serious crime is right here in east Tennessee in the friendly burg of Oak Ridge.
As reported today by Kevin Saylor in the Knoxville News-Sentinel, the feds have been called in on the case and the thieving mother is under serious charges. I'm sure, however, that her children will be emotionally scarred for life.
Senior U.S. District judge Rita Whitt commented at the hearing that "It's a sad day when a mother slowly siphons away candy from her own flesh and blood."

Oh, how sad! The little ones may be emotionally scarred from their mother stealing their candy and just think of their hard work of going all over the neighborhood trick-or-treating. Seriously, this candy just didn't fall in their little laps, they had to go out and earn it. :-(
ReplyDeleteOne glimmer of hope in this sad tale is that maybe they will have fewer cavities because of the stolen candy. It doesn't make it right, though.
A mom sometimes has to do things like that - to save her children. (Hope this was a joke - right?)

Kevin has a wonderful sense of humor :-) So do you. Have a great weeknd. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteWell... I would be right there...stealing my kids candy too!! Especially the chocolate carmel and gummy ones!!!
ReplyDeleteIs there a special jail reserved for Grandma's who steal candy...........I occasionally have a sweet tooth and heck I can take my teeth out :0
ReplyDeleteI sneak but usually my daughter and I go through her stuff and she gives me what she doesn't like and then we put a limit on the rest. Then throughout the month(s) I would ask her if I could have a piece too. She can be quite a giver :) I can only imagine what happened to the mom with a candy addiction.
ReplyDeleteummmm....should I turn myself in? :0
ReplyDeleteToo much candy is not good for the health. If I were the mum I would put it away to be eaten a bit at a time..After a healthy meal as a special treat. But, me thinks you might be kidding again?? I hope so....Otherwise I imagine an enormous woman gorging herself into a state of blimp!
ReplyDeleteWhat mother would do things like that? It must have a bad effect on the child throughout it's life. Thanks for highlighting this issue.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
Wonder if they will put Mom in a 12 step program instead of prosecuting. Do you suppose she deposited the chocolates in a "Swiss" bank?
ReplyDeleteYour paper does have the "funnest" stories.

I have stolen candy from my kids for so many years they have come to expect it. Love the humor here.
ReplyDeleteI guess I will have my wife call the Candy Police to come over and pick me up. Wait...there might be a loop-hole... The statue of limitations for taking candy from the mouth of babes has long gone by. God's blessings, Lloyd
ReplyDeleteLOL this is too funny! It'd best not be true or I'm going to feel rather silly. Mind you it won't be the first time and I'm sure not the last where I've found something funny that was serious, but for now in the moment I will appreciate the humor I find in this.
ReplyDeleteIf it is true that Mother needs some serious help!

ReplyDeleteSeriously!
ReplyDeleteOkay...as I read through this, I was thinking, "Are these reporters serious?" I'm sorta with darlin, I laughed out loud as I read this.
ReplyDeleteTrue enough, we shouldn't 'steal' from our kiddos, but this does seem a little extreme.
funny stuff in knoxville.
