I cannot imagine a life without onions. I mean, I couldn't---and wouldn't---even consider eating a hamburger without a generous slice of onion on it. And look at all those dishes that have onion included in the recipe. Why, a world without onions? No, thanks.
I Am Old School---I Like My Onion Rings Fried, With A Light, Crispy Crunch That Allows the Flavor of the Onion to Shine |
Onions were first cultivated around 3,000 BC. Claims regarding their health benefits include the common cold, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, high cholesterol, heart disease, and many more.
Personally, I prefer the Vidalia variety. This particular onion is grown in the area surrounding Vidalia, Georgia (US). It is a wonderfully sweet variety that is heavenly. Close behind the Vidalia variety---in my humble opinion---is the Walla Walla, Washington sweet onion. But, my main point is this---no matter where it is grown, or what the flavor might be, onions are a necessity of life, not to be taken for granted.
Cindy reminded me of what her mom used to tell her when she would go on a date---"Don't eat any onions". But hells bells, if a date is offended by the smell of onions, he/she ain't worth gettin' serious over!
I Like to Grill Vidalia Onions. Oh, Yeah, Babe... |
Ha ha! You reminded me of how my father used to eat big onions like they were an apple. :)
ReplyDeleteI like onions Clint, but I don't know if you know I am epileptic......have been for 25 yrs not that it bothers me , I always say that it lives with Me, AND NOT ME LIVE WITH IT.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that to get back to onions if on the occasional time I have a seizure all I can smell is ONIONS, why I don't know.
Have a great week-end.
Yvonne.
I love onions but only cooked.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Sabine
Hahaha you silly! What a fun post. I hope Cindy shares your love for onions. I drive my husband crazy because I don't. Even leave them out of recipes... but don't tell him that.
ReplyDeleteAnd to think, Onions were once thought to be poison. I am not as big of fan of onions as you Clint. I can tolerate them cooked, but raw they give me terrible heartburn.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to offer garlic as another contender because of how it helps other food along. Your photos today are wonderful. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteYou have so many interesting comments, Clint. BTW, you have so many wonderful followers, I feel like I know them, too!
ReplyDeleteI am going to put red onions in the new dish I am making tonight. Glad we have the ♥ of onions in common! ;~)
Texwis---I have seen myself do exactly that. I woulda' loved your dad.
ReplyDeleteHi Yvonne---I'm happy you have the right attitude about your epilepsy. That is so important. I can understand why someone might not care for onions if they got that smell sensation when a seizure hit. Please take care of yourself and have a wonderful weekend, my friend.
ReplyDeleteSabine---Lots of folks only eat cooked onions. I like'em any way I can get 'em!
ReplyDeleteKaren---TERRIBLE! :) Actually I'm laffin' at your covert activities. Gotta keep an eye on you women!
ReplyDeleteJane---Occasionally I can get heartburn from them, too---especially the strong, pungent ones.
ReplyDeleteMary---Garlic is another love of mine. Plus, it keeps vampires away.
ReplyDeleteCindy I still need to follow your blog. Sorry for the delay but I feel like we're all friends already.
ReplyDeleteOk Cindy is all linked into my photography blog. Nice photos Cindy! I started out with crayons too. And... stealing my Dad's Polaroid Instamatic when he was busy with the grown-ups. I was only 5. Greetings from Monmouth County it's in my list on the sidebar. Have a great weekend you two!
ReplyDeleteI love onions too and I looovvvvve garlic. We eat whole fried garlic, pickled garlic and garlic is in our every food. I make the best pasta sauce because I use a lot and a lot of onions and garlic. I think over here parents feed their children garlic so that they won't go on a date;)
ReplyDeleteOcean Girl---YOU ARE MAKIN' ME SALIVATE! You must be a sensational cook. I love garlic, too. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteKaren---did you and the Cinderoo get hooked up? Blessings.
ReplyDeleteclint, i can smell ya from over here! hehe. i had my onion bread again tonight. i enjoy onions and looove garlic.
ReplyDeletefun post! have a splendid weekend!=)
Watch it Clint, remember the leeks of Egypt? I like you believe that onions and the onion family spice up our lives. I love them in just about anything except deserts.
ReplyDeleteI love onions, but fried when on Hamburgers.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you have tried this: Chopped tomatos, and raw onions, fresh basil and some garlic, salt to taste and mixed with olive oil to flavour. Eat on crispy bread...This is an Italian recipe.
I was waiting for you to say you love Chilli!
Gosh I learned to love this when living in the U.S. But not tooooo HOT.
So yummy and good for you. Hugs
Kelli---I'm guilty as charged. Some women like the smell of Old Spice, some like English Leather. I've found Cindy, who likes garlic and onions. Ha.
ReplyDeleteSue---I'm watchin'it!
ReplyDeleteCrystal Mary---That sounds sooo good! Gonna have to try it.
ReplyDeleteI also like chili---here in Texas we fancy ourselves experts on the subject.
Just today...my husband opted NOT to put the sliced onion on his grilled chicken pita...I told him he was down right missing out! I LOVE THEM!!! They're beautiful too!
ReplyDeleteHe is missin'out---but that is all the more onion for YOU!
ReplyDeleteI love onions too, but I wouldn't know a Vidalia onion from a Walla Walla onion! I love garlic as well! Doesn't take much! I like them cooked and raw. My hubby is not a fan...hasn't stopped me, though! He has an extremely sensitive nose and if I had garlic he swears he can smell it a whole week later!!!
ReplyDeleteI spent some time in ViSalia, CA and people always asked if that was the onion capital, lol! Nope...but it is in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley so a great place to go if you love produce!
