An Excellent Question.......

Our cable channel was running a series of gangster movies last week.  It was hosted by Rudy Giuliani.  Their first movie was, of course,  Mario Puzo's "The Godfather", starring Marlon Brando, James Caan, Al Pacino and Robert Duvall.

I read the book when it was first published, and I loved it.  I have seen the movie several times, and it is one of the very few films that really do come close to the excellence of the book.

But, as I watched the movie again last week, I was struck by one scene that had not made an impression on me before.  It is the scene following the death of the Godfather, in which Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) is alone with his mother.  He asks her this question:  "How did dad really feel in his heart?"

I was surprised to hear him ask that question.  I mean, he grew up close to his father.  You would think he would have known what his dad felt in his heart, wouldn't you?

Hmmm.........interesting question.  I got to thinking what my dad felt in his heart.  I was pretty surprised to find that I can't tell you what he felt.  I grew up with my dad, but I strangely cannot say that I knew him.
